The Digital Media Experience Lab is set to launch at the Press Center for the Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Occupying an area of more than 200 square meters on the first floor of Media Center, the 5G-enabled Lab provides smart, interactive and immersive digital media service integrating both online and offline experience. Starting from June 26th, the Lab will open to Chinese and foreign journalists at the Press Center.

Hosting a lively exhibition of the CPC’s 100-year history. The Digital Media Experience Lab will showcase exhibits from the People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency and China Media Group. Here, Chinese and foreign journalists can appreciate a wealth of innovative digital media products in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and gain a deeper understanding about the historic journey and great achievements of the CPC in the past 100 years. With “Thumbs up for your hard work of a century”, you can share your smile for the CPC’s 100th birthday. “A Ticket for You” takes you on a journey across the eventful history of the CPC. “When You Were 28” is an animated short film depicting the stories of the young founders of the CPC one hundred years ago. “10-billion-Pixel Matrix” promises an immersive experience using 10-billion-pixel images and details down to the millimeter scale to recreate the important geographic landmarks in the 100-year history of the CPC. “The Age of Awakening” and “The Main Eastern Battlefield” mark the first time a Chinese media organization has used 4K technology to restore and give colors to precious, archived images and footage about the history of the CPC. Also among the exhibits are a series of short videos made by central- and provincial-level media organizations, such as “Dare to Create a New World”, “Century-old Glories in Century-old Eyes”, “Vows of 100 Academicians”, “Dispatched from Where the Mission Started”, “CPC Member, Please Respond” and “100 Recordings along the Path to Rejuvenation.”

Demonstrating the progress of media convergence. The Digital Media Experience Lab highlights a number of innovative practices of applying new technologies in coverage of major events. “Poverty alleviation: A Witness in Space” uses satellite imagery to track the progress of 832 counties being lifted out of poverty. “Holography-assisted interactive interview at the New Cube Studio” adopts 5G, CAVE, MR technologies to provide 3D immersive interaction. “Experiencing the China Speed: The Secret of Fuxing Bullet Trains” in VR panoramas reveals how China’s high-speed trains are manufactured. “Visit China, Create Fine China” simulates the process of shaping and coloring porcelain in honor of the CPC’s 100th birthday and provides an immersive experience of Chinese culture. The lab also exhibits innovative report “Stories behind Old Pictures”, allowing users to interact with 16 historical role models across time and space, and the AI Media Command Center is a commercial grade product featuring a self-developed, complete knowledge map and popular algorithm module.

Revisiting China’s history of media development. Digital Media Experience Lab includes a segment for items bearing the historical marks of China’s revolution which will inspire a look back to the original mission of the CPC across 100 years. Smart touch screens around facilitate dialogues across time and space; the juxtaposition of historical pictures invokes dramatic contrasts. The combination of the real and the virtual, the past and the future serves to better present China’s stories. All of these account for the history of the media industry since the founding of the CPC and outline the path of the media guided by the CPC. The segment also provides a window to the brand-new operating style of the People’s Daily Hub, the immersive and interactive editing solution at Xinhua News Agency and the high-quality audio-visual extravaganza by the experimental 8K ultra high-definition channel of China Media Group.

Making new friends through media cooperation. To provide services to overseas journalists and media consumers, better present the story of the CPC and convey the voice of China, the Digital Media Experience Lab selects and demonstrates a number of bi-lingual digital media products that adopt targeted communication channels, globalized, regionalized and localized expressions, and interactive interfaces. These include “Xi Jinping's Stories” which illustrates Xi Jinping’s thoughts on governance, media reports on Wuhan’s perseverance and the nation’s support in the fight against COVID-19, and “WHO RUNS THE CPC”, the first interactive project of its kind that details the organizational structure of the CPC. Other products on display include: “This is China: CGTN Panda Knows ALL!”, “A British Lad in Daliang Mountains: the Poverty-alleviation Train in Full Load”, and a series of news products that have gained global influence. Each of these tells a great story about China and illustrates the country in colorful and lively lights.

Meanwhile, the Press Conference will launch an online Experience Lab, using 720°VR technology to bring the offline exhibition to the online space. Users from home and abroad can access the virtual Experience Lab by visiting the website or WeChat account of the Press Center.

Starting from June 26, the Digital Media Experience Lab will be in service and await your arrival!
